Creating a well-planned schedule, modes, and routines can help your child manage their time and stay on top of their responsibilities. Here’s how to make your kid's schedule and some tips for managing it effectively.
You can watch this short tutorial to learn how to set up contacts and apps, or scroll down for a detailed step-by-step guide.
Schedules
Creating a schedule for your child's phone allows you to manage the accessibility of different apps and functions at specific times. You can automatically limit phone functions when your child is at school or at home to keep them from being distracted. The goal is to provide them with the freedom to access what they need while maintaining healthy boundaries.
On your Caregiver Portal, go to Schedule and tap "Create new." Type in the name of the Schedule and tap "Create Schedule."
Modes
A "mode" is a grouping of apps, contacts, and routines that needs to be added to your child’s schedule. You have the option to choose from the existing modes you have or create a new one.
To create a new mode, tap "Create Mode" and type in the name. You can add apps and routines, limit contacts, and enable the Camera and Image Capabilities on each mode. Once saved, you may insert it into each of your Schedules.
You can also edit the modes by tapping the pen icon on the top right corner or delete them by tapping the trash icon beside it.
Routines
Routines appear as a checklist on your child's Pinwheel during specific Modes or times of the day. They can be super useful in teaching children responsibility and independence without you having to remind them as much. They see a confetti shower when they complete a checklist!
- On your Caregiver Portal, tap "More" and select "Routines".
- Tap "Add Routine" and enter the name of the Routine you’d like to create. From there, you can begin adding tasks to the routine. Don't forget to enable the widget to ensure that it appears on the Pinwheel phone.
Customize your Schedule
Once you have created your Schedule, Modes, and Routines, create a timeline on when a mode should begin and end. Tapping the mode will give you the option to customize the time.
If there’s no mode set for a particular time of the day, the phone will automatically switch to Nothing Mode. This means your child can only use emergency contacts and some essential apps like Pinwheel Settings, Messenger, Contacts, and the Clock. All other apps will be disabled.
Assign Daily Schedules to Calendar Dates
In the calendar section, click the drop-down to apply a different saved schedule to that date; repeat as needed.
Choose a Schedule to apply to the calendar. Don't worry, you can choose to set it up for all weeks or keep it as a one-time occurrence.
If your child doesn't see the new schedule, you may need to reload the device to get the update.
Once that's done, they'll be able to see their current mode and all of the modes coming to them in the timeline on the device.
